Obama's "punished with a baby" comment sparks protests
Related articles:
.- Christian leaders in the U.S. are demanding that Sen. Barack Obama apologize for comments he made referring to babies as a “punishment”. While addressing a campaign rally in Pennsylvania last weekend, Sen. Obama said, "When it comes specifically to HIV/AIDS, the most important prevention is education, which should include -- which should include abstinence education and teaching the children -- teaching children, you know, that sex is not something casual," he said. "But it should also include -- it should also include other, you know, information about contraception because, look, I've got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old," he added. "I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby," Obama said. The Christian Defense Coalition responded to Obama by saying that his comment is “not only a slap in the face to every child born to a young mother, but it diminishes the great joy that children bring to their families regardless of the circumstances in which they were born.” Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, also commented on Obama’s campaign for change, saying, "Senator Obama talks about bringing change to America. However, when it comes to his policies on abortion he is strictly 'old school.' Every recent poll shows that America's emerging generation is embracing a culture of life and desires and end to the violence that has resulted in the deaths of over 50,000,000 innocent children and wounded so many women.” A demonstration protesting Obama’s pro-abortion policies was held yesterday at 3:30pm at West Chester University, where Sen. Obama made a campaign stop. Subscriber comments:

"Not every woman/girl wants to have a baby, so yes, in some aspect Obama was right in his statment!!! "
No, T Girl, he was not. He specifically said that if his girl "makes a mistake". This does not imply she was raped, nor does it imply incest or danger to her health. It flat out says, "if my daughter is irresponsible, she should be able to get rid of the baby that results from her mistake." This is disgusting.
Trying to twist his words in order to rationalize them is repulsive.

So you guys are saying in the case of rape, incest, or life of the mother, abortions should still be denied? I am so appauled. So, in that case men can just do whatever they want, but the women will have to physically and emotionally carry the burden rest of her life. Anyone who considers this OK is sick and misagyanistic, and that to me says a much bolder statement than Mr. Obama's statment. Not every woman/girl wants to have a baby, so yes, in some aspect Obama was right in his statment!!!

The liberals (and Obama is King) will continue to try & make you & me pay for the shedding of the innocents as they tried again this week to push through Bill 3200 and make it a part of our "health care". Abortion is not a solution - only an added burden for women to carry for the rest of their lives. The child, of course, never had a choice. Choose adoption and let your child live.

If young people would remain celibate before marriage there would be no abortions. With todays "any thing goes" way of living nothing will ever change. Everything in life seems to be of a "me first" mentality and the heck with the consequences.

For heaven's sake. While I don't ever find a candidate (or President) that I agree wholeheartedly on every issue, it's pretty obvious that the 'punishment' is not just a 'baby,' but what it can imply to a teenager. Shame, lost hope, burden of heavy responsibility or of giving away because not able or ready to raise a child at that time. For me, I lost a full term baby at 10 days of life at 30 years old. There is nothing that will ever help me get any further along in my grief than I am right now, but even I understood the implications this would have had for me had I been a teenager. Life is rife with the heaviness of responsibility, and we, none of us, can ever be properly prepared for all of it; but we can keep trying to make our point while our children grow in to responsible adults past the stage where they think they are 'already able' to withstand what curves life can throw at them.

I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby," Obama said. If you read the quote, he is talking about support of abstinence and contraception education. He said he would teach them morals about abstinence but also about contraception, so that if they made the mistake of NOT being abstinent, they would not be punished for that mistake by having a baby. This statement has nothing to do with abortion. Before you misrepresent a statement, remember Eph. 4:25, "put away falsehood" -Andrew- He still said that a baby is a punishment. It doesn't matter which way you look at it obama said what he means. Babys are punishments for those who are abstinant. tell me, what do you suppose he would encourage his girls to do with the "punisment" after they had not been abstinant? He would tell them to have an abortion. after all, he would not want to punish them with a baby.

For all you people out there who have no problem taking an innocent statement and turning it into a monumental "issue", I would like to suggest: let he who has not sinned cast the first stone, and love thy neighbor as thyself. And remember, any human life means the same to Jesus - not just babies! Have you ANY idea what it's like having a child at such an early age with a person who really doesn't even want to be a father/mother? My guess is no, most of you have absolutely no idea. I've had relatives in a similar situation, and while I cannot say on a personal level what it does to a person(s), I sure saw what it did to 2 different families (and I use that term losely), and what it can be like for everyone even remotely involved. So stop being so self-righteous and judgmental and try to be a little more "grown up". God/Jesus will be the judge, so you don't have to take on his job.

The criticism of the "oldest and most tiresome arugment there is," I still find as ridiculous as single-issue voting (kind of like only having 2 candidates with unsatisfactory stanches). This is a way more complex issue than the idiots taking offense at Obama's remark make it out to be. Lives are lives whether they are babies, soldiers, embryos, rich, poor, malcontent, satisfied, faithful and not; but at what point does one realize the R-button in the voting booth isn't getting the job done?
While I realize that the bigotry professed on the board does not represent many people at all, the word ignorant is thrown around an awful lot and no one seems to be paying any attention to history which is more indicative of the future than all the portentous, backward prophecies and hysterical reactions can ever reveal.

I think there should be demonstrations at all of Obama's campaign stops. It was done when both he and Hillary were here in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. People noticed and several indicated they didn't know Hillary was for abortion. The Obama event protesters were accompanied by a Catholic priest(wearing his collar, too). That one made the tv news. The message got out as best it could, but with a pro choice media it's very difficult to get anything about pro life published or broadcast.
Sadly, many people are more faithful to the Democrat party than they are to their Catholic faith.

I think Obama mis-spoke. I think he must have meant "I don't want a baby punished by my daughter" instead of "I don't want them punished with a baby." The baby did not get to make a decision that negatively impacted anyone. Unless you get to chose to be born to a specific person.

To anyone who thinks that a baby is a punishment for sex outside of marriage, they need to think again. Of course we all know that sex outside of marriage is wrong but to call the baby a punishment is an affront to God our Creator and to all believers that He is that. A baby is a blessing no matter what the circumstances of its birth. Words like Obama spoke have been spoken to many children over the years that have been born out of wedlock and have damaged those children emotionally.

Ayana Flowers... The 4,000 soldiers that have died in the war are heros who had a choice. 4,000 babies are killed in their mothers womb every day in this country! Every day! That's roughly one every 20 seconds or so. Where is the choice for these helpless human beings? The denial of truth and the self-centeredness of pro abortion folks never ceases to amaze me. It's disturbing.

Ayana Flowers should stop wondering. I am sure that Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney will respond to the plight of unwanted babies - and also street kids etc. - just like others in his position around the world do by assisting in adoptions, setting up refuges and so on. As for Iraq: it might interest you to know that right from the beginning, even when most Americans supported the invasion, the Church, including the pope, did not condone this action. I have no doubt that more than just a protest, Catholics will be doing a lot to help the injured and, no doubt, many affected families as well.

Sometimes our choices in elections are lousy, but who we should choose of the lousy is very clear. Barack Obama has defended in Illinois what is clearly infanticide after an attempted abortion (Even Hillary voted to protect born children in a U.S. Senate vote.)
But the"in the tank for Obama" media has refused to ask probing questions on Obama's current views--so presumably he is still for infanticide to guarantee an abortion's "success." This is lower and more bloodthirsty than any other candidate has stooped so far--even on the edxtremist, radical wing of the Dem. Party.

We must remember that Obama is of the culture of death. He promote abortion, voted for infanticide, wants partial birth abortion back, and voted against parents being told when underage teen daughters were taken across state lines for abortions. I am surprised that as a Black Man he supports Planned Parenthood who seeks out blacks to have abortions. That was Margaret Sanger's original goal when she founded PP.

You think God likes the fact that we kill his creations out of sheer selfishness?
A man once asked God, "Lord, why don't you send someone to save us from cancer, AIDS, war, poverty, and all other evils?" And God responded, "I did...but you aborted them all." And, if killing a baby is no big deal, then why can't we kill adults? They're nothing more than babies that are bigger. The biological argument that we only abort "tissue" means that adults are also just "tissue". And if you're inconvenient to me, then I demand that the government allow me to abort you. Well?

Pro-lifers ARE against the war but 40 million babies murdered in the womb for the past 35 years is more than all the American casualties in all the wars fought, including the Revolutionary War. It's so very sad that a "right to privacy" issue like abortion is thrust into the political spotlight with every major election, when even the most conservative of presidents, Ronald Reagan, stirred the pot to get elected, but did nothing to overturn Roe V Wade, though he had the backing of Congress and the Senate to do whatever he wanted. He also had a favorable Supreme Court. The Court is more conservative now than it's been in my lifetime, but nobody, and I do mean nobody, who riles up the pro-lifers does anything to rid this country of abortions. I believe in the Constitution and a woman's right to privacy. If she doesn't want to be punished, saddled, stuck, with a baby, then that's her business. The Catholic Church is right to teach that to its parishoners, but they have a right to make up their own minds when it comes to such a private and weighty matter.

Sen. Obama's complete voting record on social issues must be made public and accessible to the widest audience, including the youth who will blindly vote for him if he is the Democratic nominee. His stance on social issues is to the left of NARAL and the ACLU. Note must be made of his votes in Chicago concerning babies born from 'botched' abortions. The press has said nothing about his positions on social issues! He must be made to answer all questions to support his votes that are expressly against the dignity of all life.
