.- Secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Family, Archbishop Jean Lafitte, has indicated that a handbook the council is currently preparing on marriage will be directed toward ministers, priests and pastoral workers who prepare engaged couples to receive the sacrament.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Archbishop Lafitte said the new document “will be easily accessible,” reports ANSA news agency. He noted that it was created not only for pastoral reasons, but also for anthropological needs, as the requirements of marriage preparation vary greatly from place to place.
He added that oftentimes, people who seek priests for marriage preparation have “no idea what the Church is asking of them,” or do not necessarily know “what the sacrament of marriage even is.”
