    Proverbs 30:5-9

5Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you, and you be found a liar.
7Two things I ask of thee; deny them not to me before I die:
8Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me,
9lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, “Who is the LORD?” or lest I be poor, and steal, and profane the name of my God.

  • Responsorial Psalm

    Psalms 119:29, 72, 89, 101, 104, 163

29Put false ways far from me; and graciously teach me thy law!
72The law of thy mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
89For ever, O LORD, thy word is firmly fixed in the heavens.
101I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep thy word.
104Through thy precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.
163I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love thy law.

    Luke 9:1-6

1And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases,
2and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal.
3And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics.
4And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart.
5And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.”
6And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

    Galatians 2:19-20

19For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God.
20I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

  • Responsorial Psalm

    Psalms 128:1-5

1Blessed is every one who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways!
2You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.
3Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.
4Lo, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.
5The LORD bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life!

  • Gospel

    Matthew 16:24-27

24Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
25For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
26For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life?
27For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done.
