St. Valentine is perhaps one of the most widely-recognized Catholic saints in the world, but there's actually not a lot we can say about him with certainty. At least two churches in Italy claim to house his mortal remains, but many details about his life seem to have been lost to time.

So what CAN we say about St. Valentine? Who was he, and why is he associated with love and romance today?
