CNA Newsroom CNA Newsroom: The Great Communion Debate

Daniel Ibáñez/CNA.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops held their Spring Assembly last week, beginning Wednesday and wrapping up on Friday.

Over the course of three days, the bishops advanced the sainthood causes of two Americans; they discussed improvements of the translations of the Liturgy of the Hours of the breviary, and the Order of Penance; they voted in favor of drafting a statement about ministry to Native Americans; and voted to move forward with a three-year Eucharistic revival initiative. All of which was, in its own way, very interesting, and very important.

But the vote that has arguably made the most media coverage— the vote that everyone seems to be talking about— was a vote on whether to draft a document on “Eucharistic Coherence,” essentially a document laying out Church teaching on the Eucharist.

This week on CNA Newsroom, we talk with several bishops, and CNA's Politics Editor Matt Hadro, about what Eucharistic Coherence means and why it matters.
