A bicycle pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan will be made this week by 100 clerics, the Archdiocese of Guadalajara’s sports ministry has announced.

The Oct. 8 pilgrimage will follow a five mile route from the Guadalajara Cathedral to the basilica.

"Within the framework of the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Zapopan, we want to carry out this priestly ride as a form of pilgrimage, taking advantage of the enthusiasm that many priests have for riding a bicycle," said Fr. Emilio Fabián Santos Jiménez, coordinator of the pastoral for sports.

"It is a different way of pilgrimage, but one that maintains the same intention of being a living witness to the Marian devotion of the Church in Guadalajara," the priest said.

The priest added, “as Pastoral of Sports, we started working only a few months ago, but we wanted to start with something, maybe not so big, and without losing our objectives in terms of evangelizing through sports.”
