    Amos 3:1-8; 4:11-12

3 1Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt: 2"You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. 3"Do two walk together, unless they have made an appointment? 4Does a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out from his den, if he has taken nothing? 5Does a bird fall in a snare on the earth, when there is no trap for it? Does a snare spring up from the ground, when it has taken nothing? 6Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does evil befall a city, unless the LORD has done it? 7Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets. 8The lion has roared; who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken; who can but prophesy?" 4 11"I overthrew some of you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomor'rah, and you were as a brand plucked out of the burning; yet you did not return to me," says the LORD. 12"Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!"

  • Responsorial Psalm

    Psalms 5:4-8

3O LORD, in the morning thou dost hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for thee, and watch. 4For thou art not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not sojourn with thee. 5The boastful may not stand before thy eyes; thou hatest all evildoers. 6Thou destroyest those who speak lies; the LORD abhors bloodthirsty and deceitful men. 7But I through the abundance of thy steadfast love will enter thy house, I will worship toward thy holy temple in the fear of thee.

  • Gospel

    Matthew 8:23-27

23And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. 25And they went and woke him, saying, "Save, Lord; we are perishing." 26And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O men of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. 27And the men marveled, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?"

    2 Timothy 2:22-26

22So shun youthful passions and aim at righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call upon the Lord from a pure heart. 23Have nothing to do with stupid, senseless controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. 24And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kindly to every one, an apt teacher, forbearing, 25correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant that they will repent and come to know the truth, 26and they may escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

  • Responsorial Psalm

    Psalms 37:3-6, 30-31

3Trust in the LORD, and do good; so you will dwell in the land, and enjoy security. 4Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. 6He will bring forth your vindication as the light, and your right as the noonday. 30The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. 31The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.

  • Gospel

    John 17:20-26

20"I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word, 21that they may all be one; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23I in them and thou in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me. 24Father, I desire that they also, whom thou hast given me, may be with me where I am, to behold my glory which thou hast given me in thy love for me before the foundation of the world. 25O righteous Father, the world has not known thee, but I have known thee; and these know that thou hast sent me. 26I made known to them thy name, and I will make it known, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them."
