Sirach 24:1-4, 16, 22-24
1Wisdom will praise herself, and will glory in the midst of her people. 2In the assembly of the Most High she will open her mouth, and in the presence of his host she will glory: 3"I came forth from the mouth of the Most High, and covered the earth like a mist. 4I dwelt in high places, and my throne was in a pillar of cloud. 16Like a terebinth I spread out my branches, and my branches are glorious and graceful. 22Whoever obeys me will not be put to shame, and those who work with my help will not sin." 23All this is the book of the covenant of the Most High God, the law which Moses commanded us as an inheritance for the congregations of Jacob.
Psalms 34:5, 7, 9-10, 18-19
4I sought the LORD, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. 6This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. 8O taste and see that the LORD is good! Happy is the man who takes refuge in him! 9O fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no want! 17When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. 18The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.
3So with us; when we were children, we were slaves to the elemental spirits of the universe. 4But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" 7So through God you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then an heir.
26In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 28And he came to her and said, "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!" 29But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. 30And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end."
